Last October, without even knowing it was Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, we adopted our puppy Teddy. I knew I wanted to rescue a dog because there are so many pooches out there who deserve a good home. For a month or two I searched on Petfinder to look for the right dog for us, until I finally found the dog for us!
We made the trip from Oshkosh to Oxford to meet this adorable puppy at Eyes of Hope Shelter and he instantly melted our hearts…he was so tiny! Once we heard his story, my heart broke even more. The shelter rescued Teddy when he was two weeks old because his previous owners abandoned him in an apartment.
When I heard this, I looked at this tiny dog and wondered how anyone could be so heartless! But sometimes good things come from bad situations, because our adoption application was accepted and one week later we got to bring Teddy home with us.
If you are thinking about getting a dog, please consider adopting instead of buying! Read Petfinder’s article on how you can help spread awareness of Adopt A Shelter Dog Month!
Adopting shelter dogs shouldn’t just be during October, it should be something that happens year round.
